The demolition marks the start of a regeneration programme of the Highmead Estate in the Angel Edmonton area.
The local council is now working with Newlon Housing Trust, Countryside Properties and Hawkins Brown Architects to develop a new estate.
The 11-storey tower block will now be replaced with housing, shops, a community building and a health and medical centre. There will also be 1,037sq m of new retail space in Fore Street with permission for shops, cafes, restaurants and a bar.

Councillor Ahmet Oykener, Enfield's Cabinet Member for Housing, said: "We have first class architecture which has taken into account the ideas and needs of the community and a strong management team to provide housing services for the estate.
"With 118 new homes with family-sized affordable housing we are helping to build a stronger community. The flexible commercial space, a community building and health centre are providing an attractive development with great employment opportunities for local people."
Work on the project is due to be completed in the summer of 2015.
