Birse Civils Paves The Way For 1500 Homes

Birse Civils has completed a key transport interchange that will pave the way for 1,500 homes to be built at the Newbury racecourse site in Berkshire.

The £5m design and build contract for David Wilson Homes includes the upgrade of Hambridge Road roundabout and the construction of a railway overbridge to improve access into the new housing and retail development.

Working collaboratively with West Berkshire County Council, the expansion of Hambridge Road roundabout has been successfully completed without retaining use of the existing highway. The project embraced careful traffic management to ensure inconvenience to businesses on a neighbouring industrial estate was kept to a minimum.

Paul Goddard from West Berkshire County Council, said: "This project will be held as a benchmark for the construction of 278 works within the county. Construction methodologies and the traffic management solutions provided by Birse Civils resulted in seamless delivery."
