Interserve has been awarded a contract extension with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) across its Newcastle estate.
The facilities services contract, which has been in place since 2004, has been extended until 2014.
The Newcastle Estate boasts HMRC's flagship site and houses over 16,000 government employees. Interserve delivers a total of 21 services including cleaning, security, catering, space planning, health and safety, procurement and fleet administration.
Unique to the service provision is a dedicated and comprehensive childcare service. This is delivered via an in-house team of Interserve staff to three day-care nurseries that can cater for up to 186 children per day. Children are educated and cared for in line with Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted guidelines.
Keith Dorling, Managing Director - Civil Government at Interserve said: "We look forward to continuing our partnership with HMRC and DWP, as well as further proving our capability to deliver better service levels at a reduced cost. Supplying services is about more than just meeting a set of standards. It is about providing the right people, trained in the right way, and working to the right set of values.
"Over the past nine years we have been working on the Newcastle contract to help provide added value and cost savings across the estate. One such innovation was to implement a fully-automated helpdesk system. All cleaning, security and porterage operatives have smartphones which alert them to any reactive events. This enables call log details to be updated directly to the server, allowing the helpdesk operative to focus on responding to incoming events rather than data processing."
