Visitors will soon be able to enjoy a new £1.2m café and cycle hire facilities at the National Trust Lanhydrock property, near Bodmin.
The buildings for the Cycle Hub, which are being built by leading construction and infrastructure company Morgan Sindall, which has an office in Plymouth, are located at the late Victorian country house run by the National Trust.
Construction of the Hub buildings is part of wider plans to create approximately six miles of new off-road cycle trails in woodlands to the north of the estate, as well as a cycle skills area. The trails will be aimed primarily at novice and family cyclists, being graded green (easy) and blue (moderate). The cycle trails will complement the recently opened trails at the Forestry Commission Cardinham Woods, which are aimed at more experienced cyclists.
Built on two adjacent sites, the café and cycle hire facilities will feature timber cladding with a zinc standing seam roof and gabion walls – these are stone filled wire blocks designed to help the building blend into the existing environment.
The buildings have been designed by Plymouth-based architects Stride Treglown and include a café/kitchen, toilets and cycle hire with bike store and a workshop space.
Kevin Hendy, contracts manager for Morgan Sindall, said: "Cycling is becoming increasingly popular across the South West. The new trails at Lanhydrock will receive a large number of visitors each year and the café and cycle hire Hub will provide a vital service to those using the trails, as well as visitors to the main house and gardens. Morgan Sindall has recently secured a number of contract wins across the region and work on this exciting project is progressing well."
