Civil Engineers, M.B. Roche & Sons Ltd, were appointed by Lane Rental Services Ltd to raise and reinstate the ironwork located along a 600m long stretch of the A6055 to enable resurfacing to take place.
M.B. Roche & Sons Ltd lifted 5 manhole covers and frames, 25 gully lids and 5 service box covers which were bedded and re-pointed using Ultracrete’s M60 bedding mortar. It achieves a compressive strength of 22N/mm² within an hour and can be laid between a depth of 10-75mm. Ultracrete’s QC10 F rapid set flowable concrete was used to backfill the ironwork. It is a two part polymer and fibre modified concrete which literally pours from the tub, filling all voids. It offers a fast strength gain of 20N/mm² after just 90 minutes and is shrinkage compensated to eliminate cracking.

It was important that downtime was kept to a minimum as work had to be completed over night to minimise disruption to traffic. All of the ironwork was reinstated during this time frame due to the materials’ rapid setting properties.
