A large-scale housing refurbishment programme being carried out by housing regeneration specialist Lovell for social housing provider Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) in Gwynedd, north-west Wales, has given a major boost to local social enterprise Antur Waunfawr.
Lovell has awarded Antur Waunfawr a new 12-month contract to collect and recycle waste material such as cardboard, wood and metal generated by the housing improvement work.
This has enabled Antur Waunfawr to take on an extra driver and recruit two recycling and waste management apprentices.
As part of their roles, the three new employees will also support members of staff who have learning disabilities. Antur Waunfawr provides job and training opportunities for a number of local people with learning disabilities enabling them to work in their own community.
The organisation originally began working with Lovell in 2011.
"Getting this new contract with Lovell has been invaluable, enabling us to take on more staff, including the apprentices who will work towards vocational qualifications during the course of their jobs with us," explained Antur Waunfawr project manager Haydn Jones.
Lovell regional director Nigel Yates said: "Providing new business and support for important community organisations such as Antur Waunfawr is central to our work with CCG. Our goal is always to deliver a legacy of benefits for the whole community and we're delighted to be creating this kind of opportunity locally at the same time as we help transform tenants' homes across the region."
