Shropshire Council's Planning Committee gave their approval to the major redevelopment last week.
Heaths Houses in Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury, is a sheltered housing scheme consisting of 88 low demand, one-bedroom flats and bedsits that had become difficult to let due to the small size of the properties and the general layout of the building.

The housing provider carried out an extensive consultation with residents before the future of the scheme was decided and an application was submitted. After considering the various options, it was decided that a redevelopment of the site would be the preferred choice.
The approved plans will now see the demolition of the existing flats. These will be replaced with 41 new flats and town houses, and will be offered for a mix of tenures including social and market rent, market sale and shared ownership.
Work is due to commence on the £4m scheme in February 2014, with a scheduled completion date of August 2015.
Following the decision to close the current build, Severnside has worked closely with residents to offer them suitable accommodation that meets their needs and requirements.
