New proposals are set to be launched for the redevelopment of part of Woking Town Centre to be known as Victoria Square at a public exhibition from Thursday 12th September.
Victoria Square will be delivered by Bandstand Square Developments Limited (BSDL) a joint venture between Moyallen, owners of Peacocks Shopping Centre, Surrey County Council and Woking Borough Council. These organisations have come together to deliver Victoria Square.
Victoria Square comprises the former Woking Market (currently being relocated to Peacock Walk), the site of the former post office, Globe House, Woking Fire Station (which is due to be relocated), Bandstand Square civic space, a number of existing retail units including Boots and some of the surrounding road network including Victoria Way, Cawsey Way and Church Street West.
BSDL will display proposals for the site's redevelopment to deliver 125,000 sq ft of new retail floorspace anchored by Marks & Spencer, a new Boots store, a four star hotel with conference facilities, spa and gym, new residential apartments, additional car parking and two new public plazas. The proposals include the relocation of the existing fire station and a site for a new fire station building has been secured in Goldsworth Road. The new building will be larger than the existing with increased facilities to better serve the community. The new fire station will be completed prior to the decommissioning of the existing facility.
Interested neighbours, residents and members of the public are invited to attend the exhibition and to discuss the proposals with representatives of the developers. There will be opportunities to provide comments and feedback on the proposals before they are formally submitted as part of a planning application.
Councillor John Kingsbury, Leader of Woking Borough Council, said: "These exciting redevelopment proposals to create Victoria Square will positively transform this part of Woking town centre and deliver a high quality mixed use development anchored by Marks & Spencer. It will include a number of improvements that will benefit local people as well as attracting important investment into the town."
