Kier To Increase Energy Efficiency In Cambridge Homes

Cambridge City Council households in Cambridge are set to see the benefits of a domestic heating programme and roof replacement scheme, thanks to work carried out by Kier in order to increase the energy efficiency of homes and help reduce fuel poverty for council residents in the city.

Cambridge has a slightly lower than average incidence of fuel poverty at 14.5%, where more than one in seven households suffer fuel poverty. Kier will carry out boiler and roof replacements to 300 council-owned properties across the city, supplying long-term environmental benefits such as reduced energy bills for council tenants and a lower carbon footprint for their homes.

Kier, which has a strong focus on customer care, has received consistently positive customer feedback for the work carried out so far, with customer satisfaction figures of 91.4% for roof replacements and 96.6% for the boiler re-fits.

One resident, who has benefited from the boiler replacement scheme, commented: "The Kier employees who fitted my new boiler were excellent, helpful and efficient. They had great professionalism and the work was carried out without any fuss, causing me minimal disruption."

The improvements, part of planned works carried out by the Council's Estates & Facilities department, will help protect families from falling into fuel poverty, a serious problem affecting millions of households in the UK. Fuel poverty is defined as being unable to afford to keep warm; any household which needs to spend more than 10% of its income on fuel for adequate heating is classed as living in fuel poverty.
