National Grid's London Power Tunnels project team has excelled in the latest assessment by the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) by achieving a score of 42 out of a possible 50.
The project scored eight and nine out of 10 in the five areas measured which included; enhancing the appearance, respecting the community, protecting the environment, securing everyone's safety and caring for the workforce. A score of eight in any category shows excellent measures are in place, while nine acknowledges the exceptional measures implemented.
Exceptional scores were awarded for 'Caring for the Workforce' and 'Respecting the Community', which demonstrates the projects' exemplary commitment that 'Costain Cares'. The project demonstrated the very highest level of achievement through: encouragement of new people into the industry by young offender’s scheme, extensive engagement with the 10 local authority environmental health officials, inviting local cafe's to manage site canteens, detailed traffic management plan, newsletters and face-to-face community drop-in sessions.
Commenting on the site, Chris Magee, the CCS Monitor, said: "This large scale project continues to promote an above excellent impression with its presence in several locations within the London area. The contractor continues to be very much a team player in all community link issues and initiatives used to communicate progress of the project to the community.
"Excellent promotion of the environmental and safety processes continues as the project progresses in various locations with exceptional results being maintained. The highest standard of operative facilities and feedback is provided by a very focused and informed site management team."
