Kier Celebrates European H&S Week

Kier Harlow celebrated European Health & Safety Week with the announcement it has attained a zero AIR (Accident Incident Rate), achieving 1.4 million accident-free hours.

The results follow a concerted initiative by the repairs and maintenance provider to achieve zero AIR, which has involved robust on-site inspections, an improved risk assessment process and ongoing licensed training.

Maintaining the momentum of these landmark achievements, Kier is keeping health & safety at the forefront of its workforce's mind and staged a series of training events throughout the awareness week. Managers and operatives were invited to attend the events, held at Kier Harlow's offices at Mead Industrial Park, including sessions on protection from dust and small particles, risks associated with noise and vibration, first aid training, discussion on various fire scenarios, as well as a briefing on health and well-being.

Kier operations director, John Philips said: "Health & safety is the number one priority for us as a company. We owe it to our staff to ensure they are operating in the safest possible working environment and are given all the tools and information necessary to take charge of their own safety.

"That's why, despite celebrating the notable landmark of zero AIR and 1.4 million hours accident free, we are unremitting in our push on health & safety excellence, as demonstrated through our refresher training courses being held over European Health & Safety Week."
