Long Causeway Regeneration Begins

A £2 million scheme to regenerate Long Causeway in Peterborough city centre has begun.

The project includes creating a new square and meeting place with an environmental theme half way along the street outside the Queensgate entrance, replacing the paving and seating, and uplighting the trees to create the same brighter, lighter atmosphere that is now present in Bridge Street.

The Long Causeway scheme is the latest phase of the council's public realm works to transform the city centre to attract new shops and businesses and encourage residents and visitors to spend time here.

Simon Machen, Director of Growth and Regeneration, said: "The Long Causeway scheme is an integral part of the council’s vision to invest in and regenerate the city centre to encourage new businesses to re-locate here and residents to come into the city centre as well as attracting visitors from far and wide.

"To date, the public realm works have enabled us to attract national names to Peterborough from Carluccio's and Pret A Manger to TK Maxx and Wildwood. Investment into the city improves the prosperity of the area and by creating nice open spaces we can all enjoy helps to give us all a better quality of life."

The new scheme will include two covered cycle parking shelters and cycle racks to secure 58 bikes.
