Developers Shortlisted For £2bn Water Project

Construction News Image
Enfield Council has shortlisted five developers for the second stage of selecting the master developer for the Meridian Water Development.

Berkeley Homes, Barriet & Segro, Taylor Wimpey & Dorchester, PCPD & Willmott Dixon and Peabody have all made it to the next stage.

The Meridian Water Development is an 85 hectare £2bn investment adjacent to the waterside environment of the Lee Valley Regional Park.

The appointed developer's role will be to provide 8,000 new homes, a full range of neighbourhood facilities and create 3,000 jobs by 2035, along with driving the wider regeneration of north London.

Councillor Alan Sitkin said: "Meridian Water will provide thousands of much needed homes in a fantastic setting, and will play a significant role in tackling the shortage of family accommodation in our borough.

"This is an ambitious, innovative and exciting project which will make a huge difference to the lives of thousands of families in Enfield. It demonstrates the Council's commitment to large scale regeneration schemes which provide a tangible benefit to both individuals and the wider community.

"This list of key developers gives me a real sense of pride in the project, and I look forward to working closely with the successful company."

The council has already made good progress in coordinating the essential infrastructure to ensure the scheme is successful:

• Network Rail has approved funding to provide an additional third track increasing rail provision to the Meridian Water development to four trains an hour from 2018 (with GLA funding).

• In March this year Cabinet also approved a funding package so the new Meridian Water station could be built in the same year (with GLA funding).

• A new Meridian Angel primary school has been approved and will open next year, and work is progressing to deliver further phases of Angel Gardens Park.

• Plans for the new Meridian Boulevard are underway with construction due to start in 2015.

• The Lee Valley Heat Network Company has been established to supply heat and hot water to homes at Meridian Water in 2018.

• The Council has appointed a multi-disciplinary team, comprising expert architects Karakusevic Carson Associates, leading planners ARUP, and international landscape architects OKRA, to advise the Council throughout this major project.
