HSE Prosecutes Man For Gas Safety Failings

A Bedford man has been prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) after installing an LPG fuelled boiler when he was not gas safe registered.

Kalimat Ramalingum, 58, also had no recognised qualifications to carry out the work at the domestic property.

Luton Magistrates' Court heard how Mr Ramalingum claimed to be gas safe registered to the homeowners in June 2013.

He filled out and provided them with a Landlord/homeowners Gas Safety Record which had details of another gas safe registered engineer.

In addition, he carried out work that was described as 'substandard', as after he installed the boiler it was deemed 'At Risk'.

Mr Ramilingum, (also known as David Kalimat, David Badi and David Ramalingum), of Denmark Street, Bedford, pleaded guilty to Regulation 3(3) of the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998.

He was ordered to wear a tag and put on curfew for four months between 6pm and 8am, pay £450 compensation to the Homeowners and contribute £500 towards HSE costs.
