SP Energy Networks has 'switched-on' a new £22m overhead power line. The line was activated between Legacy, Wrexham and Oswestry, North Shropshire.
The project will boost the security of electricity supplies for over 130,000 homes and businesses across Mid Wales, North Shropshire and South Wrexham.
Construction of the scheme has been underway since October 2014, following planning consent in May 2013.
The project consists of 5km of underground cables along with 21km of overhead wooden pole lines.
Over 150 people have been involved in the construction and design of the project and is the most significant power upgrade in the region for over 20 years.
Mark Sobczak, Head of 132kV Programmes at SP Energy Networks said: "This is an important long-term power upgrade for homes and businesses in Mid Wales, North Shropshire and South Wrexham. The electricity network in the region has been maintained to a high standard, and generally we operate a very reliable service. Major infrastructure projects like this are designed to ensure that we can continue to offer those high levels of reliability for decades to come.
"We have worked very closely with officials from Wrexham County Borough Council and Shropshire Council to plan and deliver the programme of works over the last year, and we would also like to thank local communities for their patience during construction."
Overall, SP Energy Networks owns and maintains over 1,200km of underground cables and nearly 4,000km of overhead lines across Mid Wales and Dee Valley.
Over the next eight years, plans are in place to invest a further £35m in the local distribution network.
