A14/M11 Improvements To Begin This Month

Construction News Image
Improvement work on the A14 and M11 in Cambridgeshire is to begin this month, Highways England has announced.

The four phase £6.3m scheme was announced last month and is to start on Monday, 16 November.

The first phase of the project will focus on embankment and bridge works on the A14/A1307 both sides of Huntingdon Road Bridge, A14 junction 33 at Milton Interchange and A14 Kings Hedges and Impington.

Upgrades include bridge work, cleaning and repairing drainage, clearing vegetation, resurfacing the path over the bridge and replacing sections of safety barrier.

In addition, the M11 entry slip road at junction 13 is to be resurfaced, while hospital A&E signs at the junction will be replaced in both directions.

On the A14 between Junction 29 (Bar Hill) and 31 (Girton), sections of the road are to be resurfaced, including new road studs and markings.

The second phase of work on the A14 at Grange Farm is to begin on 04 December.

This includes embankment work, pathway resurfacing, repairing damaged kerbs, road signs to be replaced and electrical cables to be checked.

On the A14 between junction 26 (St Ives) and 29 (Bar Hill), sections of the road are to be resurfaced, as well as installing new road studs and markings.

The final two phases of work will begin early next year, with all work being suspended over the Christmas period.

Highways England project manager, Kelly Milburn: "This work will make journeys better for local people by improving safety for the thousands of drivers that use these roads each day.

"We understand this scheme will cause some disruption for drivers and we have planned to carry out the work overnight to reduce the impact."
