Galliford Try Scores Above Average On Carbon Emissions

Construction News Image
Galliford Try has recorded an above industry average score concerning its reduction in carbon emissions.

The company scored 98 out of 100 for its 'disclosure' (transparency in sharing data about emissions) and was placed in performance band B.

On average, the industry scores 87 and C respectively.

Projects contributing to Galliford Try's score include Reed Street, a project that involved 21 homes on Tyneside being built to carbon negative standard and a scheme to replace 2,000 streetlights in Salford with energy-efficient LED lanterns.

Caroline Johnstone, Group Sustainability Manager at Galliford Try, said: "Over the past three years we've dramatically reduced our carbon footprint. Among the initiatives we've taken have been the addition of electric and lower emitting vehicles into our company car fleet and the prompter installation of electricity supplies to our site offices which is reducing our reliance on generators.

"We have also introduced short-, medium- and long-term carbon emission targets for each of our divisions and recently publicly committed to reporting climate change information in our annual report."

FirstCarbon Solutions compiles the figures and ratings for CDP, which publishes data about climate change strategy, risk management and emissions.

Daniel Turner, Head of Disclosure at CDP, said: "It is encouraging to see an improvement in Galliford Try's CDP climate change score. They have achieved more than double their targeted carbon emissions reductions of 15% per £100,000 revenue by 2014."
