Construction News Image
A planning application has been submitted by Chelsea Football Club (FC) to build a new football stadium.

The Herzog & de Meuron designed facility is to be built at the club's Stamford Bridge site in west London.

The application involves the demolition of the existing 41,600-seater stadium to build a new stadium with 60,000 seats.

Other features of the project involve ancillary stadium-related uses including a club shop and museum, plus a separate restaurant/cafe.

In addition, excavation works will be undertaken along with developing new external concourse areas.

Decking platforms will be formed over part of the District Line and part of the Southern mainline railway.

On match days, new pedestrian access arrangements will be provided from Fulham Broadway Station and Fulham Road, with new vehicular access being provided via Wansdown Place.

The application is to be examined by the London Borough of Hammersmiths and Fulham.

In a statement, the club said: "The planning process will last beyond the end of the season; if the application is granted planning permission there will still be a lot of work to do before redevelopment can start, including obtaining various other consents."
