Wates Living Space has been appointed to deliver a £33 million regeneration project in Cardiff.
The City of Cardiff Council has selected the firm to build up to 1,500 new homes over the next ten years through its Housing Partnerships Programme (HPP), including 600 council houses.
The HPP involes over 40 sties across Cardiff split into three development phases, with the first stage due to begin early next year.
Each project phase will deliver around 500 houses and all three stages will be completed by 2025.
In addition, of the properties built through the HPP will meet high levels of sustainability and energy efficiency. It is anticipated that a 'Passivhaus' pilot project will be delivered in the first phase of development.
Councillor Susan Elsmore said: "I'm delighted we have reached this important milestone in the Housing Partnership Programme, in which the Council will be investing up to £33m.
"With over 10,000 people currently on the housing waiting list in the city, this is an extremely important scheme that will play a key role in tackling Cardiff's housing need. The project will also help first time buyers get that important first step on the housing ladder."
