Liverpool Restoration Project Receives £1.9m HLF Grant

A restoration project in Liverpool has received a £1.9 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

Works are set to begin on 'The Reader at Calderstones' project, which will restore and refurbish the Grade II listed Mansion House as well as the Neolithic monoliths known as 'The Calderstones'.

It is understood work will now begin to secure the building and bring hidden 'architecturally significant elements' back into use.

The finished project will comprise of a heritage room with four key reading rooms as well as a bistro.

Dr Jane Davis, Director of The Reader says "We're delighted that HLF has given us this support. It will allow us to grasp this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create something truly special at Calderstones for the city of Liverpool and beyond."

Sara Hilton, Head of HLF North West, added: "We were hugely impressed by these proposals that will bring an exciting new use to the 19th century Mansion House and help many more people discover the history of the 4000 year-old Calderstones."
