Interserve Completes £14m Project At Middlesex University

Construction News Image
Interserve has completed a £14 million development project at Middlesex University.

The five-storey, 3,300 sq m building was designed by bpr architects and built at the university's Hendon Campus.

The 'Forum North' building has 'living' walls and a roof, with carpeted plants grown on recycled rainwater collected from the roof.

'Green' walls absorb 80% of rain, minimising the rainwater discharge into the public sewer.

The building will contain elements of the University's schools of Science and Technology, Art & Design and Media & Performing Arts.

Director at bpr architects, Graham Wilson said: "This will have a significant impact on the landscaped environment around the building. It will also attract a variety of species of birds and bugs and enhance the local ecology and environment.

Mr Wilson added the building is designed to be a flexible space which can adapt to the changing demands of the University in the future.

"So subsequently, different subjects will be able to occupy it," he said.

"There are double height structural frame ceilings which will allow future removal of some floors, so we could take out or add an additional floor to accommodate changing needs."

Middlesex University Director of Estates and Facilities, Andrew Dickie added: "This building is a symbol of the University's continuing commitment to provide top class facilities for students at Middlesex."
