Meta Management Services, (trading as Aktrion), of Rutland Court, Edinburgh, who were also the principal contractor, pleaded guilty to a breach of Regulation 22(1)(c) of the Construction, Design and Management Regulations 2007.

It was fined £9,000 with nearly £2,000 in costs.

Southwark Crown Court heard two construction workers accessed the top level of a unit which was to be dismantled on the construction site in Westferry Road on 04 March 2013.

However, one of the workers slipped and fell over the side of the unguarded platform, hitting the wall and then landing on the floor nearly six metres below.

His injuries included internal bleeding, a collapsed lung, and fractures to his pelvis and right arm.

He has since been left unable to work.
