Morgan Sindall Begins £6.9m School Project In Birmingham

Construction News Image
Work is underway to build a new £6.9 million school in Birmingham.

It is understood Morgan Sindall is developing the new Pines Special Education Needs (SEN) School in Marsh Hill.

The contractor was awarded the project under the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) framework for Birmingham City Council (BCC).

The framework, which covers the greater West Midlands region, was set up by the council and Acivico.

The scheme involves refurbishing the derelict Josiah Mason College and Canavan building on Marsh Hill, relocating The Pines Special School from its current location at Dreghorn Road.

The school will be split across two three-storey buildings and will include new teaching areas, shared halls, dining, kitchen facilities and external play/learning areas.

The structure includes a number of sensory spaces including specialist Speech and Language Therapy and Calm rooms.

Richard Fielding, area director at Morgan Sindall, said: "This school will be of a huge benefit to its pupils and their families. It is a project we are very proud to be involved in."

Morgan Sindall is in a consortium arrangement with its sister company Lovell on the multi-contractor CWM framework.

The 'Community Solutions' consortium had its role on Lot 7 of the framework extended this year, covering major capital projects with a value in excess of £500,000.
