Galliford Try has delivered a new £110 million road route in South Devon.

The South Devon Highway was officially opened by Roads Minister Andrew Jones on 22 February.

The 42-month project involved developing 5.6km of road linking Torbay and Newton Abbot.

Overall, nine bridges were built along the route, with around 4km of retaining walls and nine major culverts.

The project also included developing a 270-metre-long tunnel.

The Department for Transport contributed around £76m to the project. The balance was shared equally between Torbay Council and Devon County Council while Teignbridge District Council provided £500,000 of funding.

Peter Truscott, Chief Executive of Galliford Try, said: "We are proud to have been a part of this prestigious project which will make such a difference to the people of South Devon. We thank all the stakeholders for their collaborative approach without which it would not have been possible to deliver this challenging project successfully."

Roads Minister Andrew Jones added: "I am pleased our investment in the South Devon Highway is already delivering better journeys for thousands of hard-working people in Torbay and Newton Abbot. The road will help create new jobs and give a welcome economic boost to the region but most importantly end unpredictable travel times for drivers."
