Work Begins On Water Tunnel Repair Project In Howden

Work is underway to repair a collapsed water tunnel in Howden, Network Rail has announced.

The culvert, which runs under the A614 carriageway, will take around five weeks to rebuild.

The tunnel partially collapsed last week due to unknown reasons.

While investigations into the incident continue, engineers have now begun work to replace the tunnel with a new structure.

Mark Tarry, area director for Network Rail, said: "Safely carrying out structural repairs to tunnels like this one is something we are very experienced in and work has already started to get the tunnel rebuilt and the road reopened."

The repair project is being carried out in partnership with both Yorkshire Water and East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
