CIJC Workers Receive 2.5% Pay Increase

Construction News Image
Around half a million workers covered by the Construction Industry Joint Council (CIJC) have received a pay rise from today, 25 July.

Negotiations between union UCATT and the CIJC resulted in a two-year deal which will see a 2.5% rise this year, with a further 2.75% increase the following year.

In addition, various trades such as telehandler drivers, forklift drivers, concrete operatives, slinger/signallers and banksmen will all receive an additional pay increase above the 2.5%.

General operatives will earn a minimum of £8.73 per hour, while craft workers will receive £11.61 per hour. An extra days holiday will be provided to workers from 01 January 2017, while the taking of holidays has been made more flexible. Travel allowances have also been rearranged.

Brian Rye, Acting General Secretary of UCATT, has urged workers to check their pay packets to ensure employers honour the agreement.

"Workers need to check carefully if their employer has honoured the pay increase," he said.

"Too often in our industry employers only follow the rules that suit them. If a worker believes that they are entitled to a pay rise and have not received the correct increase they should contact UCATT for advice and assistance."
