Work is to begin on a £6 million Essex roads maintenance scheme in the new year.

Highways England have revealed the major repairs project on the A120 and A12 will get underway on Monday, 09 January.

The phased scheme will be delivered on sections of the A120 between Braintree and Marks Tey, Colchester and Wix, and of the A12 between Chelmsford and Marks Tey.

Features include:

• Resurfacing of the road surface and footpaths on the A120 between Marks Farm and Marks Tey

• Waterproofing and resurfacing the road on the Porters Park bridge of the A12, near junction 19

• Repairing road drainage on the A120 near Wix, with traffic lights and a 40mph speed limit in place while we are working

• Replacing the crash barrier in the central reservation of the A120 between junctions 29 and Hare Green, near Great Bromley

Highways England project manager Kelly Milburn said: "This work will improve safety and provide smoother journeys for the thousands of drivers that use the A120 and A12 each day.

"We understand this package of schemes will cause some disruption for drivers and local residents, so we have planned the work carefully and closely with Essex county council, local parishes and other transport services to reduce its impact as much as we can."
