Balfour Beatty has won a £35 million contract to carry out the first phase of a hospital redevelopment project in north London.
The contractor will deliver phase one of the Royal National Orthopedic Hospital (RNOH) redevelopment on behalf of the RNOH NHS Trust. The scheme is scheduled for completion in Autumn 2018.
Features include building a new modern five-storey inpatient ward facility, comprising of up to 123 beds and a series of rehabilitation therapy/recreation suites for the Stanmore-based Neuro Musculoskeletal Orthopaedic Hospital.
The work will employ over 200 people with a specific focus on the employment of local labour and SMEs.
David Kennedy, Managing Director for Balfour Beatty's Regional London business, said: "There has been significant interest and support from Harrow Borough Council and the local community for the redevelopment of this historic hospital. We look forward to delivering the initial phase of what will be a first-class facility for patients of this world renowned hospital.
"Our experience in the healthcare construction sector will enable us to minimise the construction programme for this complex scheme, through utilising capabilities such as our integrated in-house 4D modelling capability throughout the project lifecycle."
Frank Hennessy, Director of Redevelopment at the Trust, added: "This contract with Balfour Beatty represents the first step towards the complete replacement of the existing outdated infrastructure at Stanmore. Further phases are already at an advanced planning stage and will be implemented over the following decade or so."
