Bristol-based housing specialists Mi-space has started work on a new major housing development in South Gloucestershire.
The company, part of the Midas Group, is building 70 new homes on the site of the former Mount Pleasant Farm in Longwell Green. Completion is scheduled for autumn 2017.
The 'Hoopers Walk' project is being delivered by Sovereign Living, a non-charitable part of housing association Sovereign, who acquired the 68-acre site in January 2010.
The housing will be built on 4.5 acres of the site, with more units scheduled to be delivered on a phased basis over the next two years.
Cllr Ben Stokes said: "I’m delighted to see work has started on this new scheme at Mount Pleasant Farm in Longwell Green. Once complete, this development will provide a range of affordable housing units for families in South Gloucestershire.
"The affordable housing units will be built to meet a number of design standards. This means that in the future, the homes can be adapted to meet the individual needs of the residents to allow people to stay in their own home for longer should their needs change. For example, the homes are designed so that a through-floor lift could be installed to help an individual move with ease from one floor to the other."
Rob Bradley, Executive Director for Mi-space, added: "We are committed to creating and investing in the communities which we work in. As a South West company based in Bristol, we are delighted to be the contractor of choice for this project and to be delivering a really significant affordable housing scheme for the people in this area."
