Work has started on a major housing development in Cardiff.
Wates is building the first 292 homes of the 1,500-home programme, which will see thousands of new homes delivered across 40 sites.
This project at Willowbrook West in St Mellons involves the creation of 192 mixed tenure homes, including 58 new 'affordable' properties and 134 homes for sale on the open market. Completion is scheduled in 2020.
A further 106 mixed tenure homes are being built at Braunton Crescent and Clevedon Road in Llanrumney, with work scheduled to be finished in 2019.
Three other development sites have been approved as part of the first phase of 'Cardiff Living', featuring eight homes in Old St Mellons, 31 homes in Llanrumney and 16 homes in Llanishen.
Overall, the joint council and Wates programme aims to deliver approximately 600 council homes for rent or assisted home ownership and a further 900 for sale on the open market.
Both Wates and the City Council have made a joint pledge to support the employment of approximately 6,400 people and create 9,000 weeks of training for local residents over the course of the project.
Joanne Jamieson, Managing Director of Wates Residential, said: "This work represents the City of Cardiff Council's commitment to feeding the requirement for an additional 46,600 homes by 2031 and we are pleased to commence our role as the developer of the flagship 'Cardiff Living' programme.
"These new homes will provide enhanced living environments that will meet high levels of sustainability and energy efficiency for the city's residents. Crucially, our work also enables us to make a significant contribution to local economic and social development through a comprehensive employment and training programme."
