Lovell has been appointed to deliver a £5.4 million residential development in South-East Wales.
The contractor will build 48 new 'affordable' homes on the former Bridgend Town AFC football ground off Coychurch Road in Bridgend. Work is to begin this summer, with completion scheduled for summer 2018.
The project is being carried out on behalf of Hafod Housing Association. Features include developing 24 one- and two-bedroom flats; a three-bedroom bungalow and 23 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. The homes will meet sustainability standards equivalent to Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
As part of the project, Lovell will create three apprenticeships, six jobs, seven paid traineeships and 150 hours of work experience placements.
Hafod Housing managing director Alan Morgan said: "We are delighted to be working in partnership with Lovell, Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government to provide much-needed affordable homes in this area where there is high demand.
"The site is ideally located close to the town centre and local amenities and it's very rewarding to know that the build will deliver high-quality, modern homes and provide real benefits to the local community including employment and training opportunities. It will also help Welsh Government reach its target to deliver 20,000 affordable homes over the next five years."
Lovell regional managing director Kate Rees added: "Ensuring that the benefits of our developments extend as widely as possible into local communities is an important part of our approach and we are therefore excited to be working with Hafod to provide important job and training opportunities for local people through the construction scheme."
