Balfour Beatty has reached a milestone on a £150 million residential tower project in London.
The contractor has completed piling work on the 53-storey Madison development and completion is on schedule for 2020.
Designed by Make Architects, The Madison will contain 423 high specification studios, one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, including 104 affordable homes and a number of high-quality amenities such as outside space, hotel-style lounge, a gym and swimming pool. More than 70% of the site's footprint has also been planned as a new public garden, boosting London's green open spaces.
A total of 625 piles have now been driven into the ground to provide the foundations for the structure, which will reach 180 metres into the sky. Overall, at construction peak the scheem will have a workforce of 400 people.
Graham Hill, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty's Regional business in London, said: "Utilising Balfour Beatty's knowledge of complex structures in tall towers and our wide in house expertise we have completed the initial stage of ground works at The Madison. Once completed, the scheme will be a landmark addition to the luxury high end residential towers within the area of Canary Wharf."
Peter Amato, Development Director at LBS Properties, added: "Reaching this significant milestone is a testament to the quality team and commitment of our supply chain partners. We are delighted with progress to date and remain on track to meeting our programme objectives."
