The Civil Engineering Contractors Association (CECA) in Wales has highlighted a number of key aims for the incoming Government ahead of the General Election on 08 June.
The six proposals aim to "ensure that Wales is an attractive place to live and work":
• Maintain and build upon the existing infrastructure project pipeline
• Align the UK industrial strategy to the economic strengths of Wales
• Invest heavily outside London and South East England to rebalance the UK economy
• Guarantee the rights of EU citizens living in the UK to ensure we maintain access to a strong workforce
• Protect the local pound via better public procurement
• Commitment to renewable sources of energy
CECA Wales Director, Ed Evans, said: "An incoming UK Government must stop dithering and commit to the projects outlined in the National Infrastructure Delivery Plan which impact on Wales. These include the third runway at Heathrow, the Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon, Wylfa Newydd and electrification of the mainline to Swansea. And they must work constructively with the Welsh Government to align the forthcoming National Infrastructure Commission for Wales with the UK Commission and support greater investment in Welsh infrastructure via increased borrowing at a time when interest rates are historically low.
"They must work closely with all devolved governments to ensure economic strategies are aligned across all parts of the UK. And they must commit to investing heavily outside London and South East England to rebalance the UK economy. We also need to see an immediate guarantee of the rights of EU citizens living in the UK to ensure we have the workforce we need to deliver."
