The £750,000 Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) works were carried out by VolkerGround Engineering (VGE) on behalf of Marcus Worthington Group.
The 50,000ft2 brownfield site near Newcastle’s Stephenson Quarter is being transformed to feature one seven-storey and two nine-storey properties as part of a multi-billion pound scheme, featuring 280 apartments split over three different blocks.

VGE managed to achieve cost savings for the developer through value engineering with regards to retaining wall options - converting costly concrete bored piled walls to alternative driven steel solutions. This allowed the first block to be completed ahead of schedule and provided follow on trade subcontractors added programme advantage. Overall, 12% of the client's budgeted development costs were saved on their foundations solution.
