Council To Host Housing Vision Meeting In Newcastle

Construction News Image
Residents, developers, landlords and housing providers are being invited to submit their views on housing issues in Newcastle.

The city council is to host the Building Homes and Communities Policy Cabinet in the Great North Museum: The Hancock on Wednesday, 14 June.

The local authority will discuss its housing vision for the city with an audience including key stakeholders such as tenants and residents, community organisations, house builders and registered providers.

Plans include building 21,000 new homes by 2030, as well as improving the quality of the existing housing stock.

Over the last year, the council has brought over 600 empty properties back into use and delivered over 1,000 new homes, more than at any time in the last three decades.

Cllr Jane Streather said: "We are working to make Newcastle a fair, innovative and vibrant city. A city which attracts and retains employers and employees with a choice of housing that meets social needs and has inclusive communities with a sense of local identity. This means creating desirable neighbourhoods with a range of good quality homes for all our citizens.

"We know we can't deliver our vision of making Newcastle a “Great Place to Live” on our own. It's vital that we hear from residents, developers, community groups and housing providers so that together we can make our ambitious plans Newcastle a reality."
