WSP has started drawing up designs to improve capacity at Coventry Railway Station.
The 1960's Grade II Listed building is being redeveloped due to increased passenger growth over the last five years. With further growth of 100% anticipated for 2043, plans include developing a second station building and upgrading infrastructure.
WSP had first been appointed to the project in 2013 to develop a masterplan to increase capacity at the station, while preserving its heritage.
This latest appointment will see the team of engineers and environmental consultants take forward the masterplan vision, developing the best option to build capacity and improve comfort and convenience for passengers, while also advising on the listed building and planning consent process.
Overall, a concept scheme design will be produced which will allow the team to produce the final detailed design for the station ready for construction.
Jaimal Mistry, Stations Associate Director at WSP, said: "We will deploy the same fantastic team that worked on feasibility for this latest phase of the project. This team has an inherent knowledge and understanding of the details and nuances of the site and associated designs, and have developed a close working relationship with the client team, the programme managers, and key stakeholders.
"Our understanding of the stakeholder environment and design to date means we can hit the ground running, and are already ahead of the learning curve. This will allow for a smooth seamless transition from feasibility into scheme design."
