More than 1,300 new homes are set to be built on a former biscuit factory site in London.
Property developer Grosvenor has unveiled its £500 million Bermondsey 'masterplan' to build 1,350 new rental homes on the 12-acre site before submitting a planning application later this month.
Designed by architects Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, features include a new 600-place secondary school, over 10,000m2 of new office space and 10,000m2 of retail, culture, leisure, community and food and drink facilities.
In addition, 25,000m2 of new and improved streetscapes and playspace will be developed, while 140 trees will be planted with 400m2 of new public lawns.
Network Rail is also proposing to refurbish 165 underused railway arches on the site into new offices, shops, restaurants, leisure and light industrial businesses.
The plans were developed following four years of consultation with locals and other stakeholders. A number of historic buildings which reflect Bermondsey's rich past will be retained, while the new school will be built on the existing Campus site. Network Rail will also create two new routes through to The Blue business district to better knit the neighbourhood together.
Katherine Rodgers, Development Director of Grosvenor Britain & Ireland, said: "We are sharing today our detailed ambitions to create one of the capital's greatest, mixed neighbourhoods hosting 1,350 new rental homes for locals and Londoners.
"We want to see a growing district that is inclusive and physically integrated, with historic buildings retained and new commercial spaces, local amenities and public spaces created."
