Work Continues On Liverpool Lime Street Station Upgrade

Construction News Image
Work is continuing on a major upgrade project at Liverpool Lime Street station.

Network Rail is improving the station to increase the amount of services, with features including longer platforms and better signalling and a re-modelled concourse.

The scheme is part of a £340 million investment into the Liverpool City Region railway by 2019.

So far, work has been completed on upgrading platforms 1, 2 and 9 along with the modernisation of the station's signalling system, as well as new overhead line equipment and new track installed between Huyton and Roby. New facilities have also been installed at the stations, including better customer information systems, new lifts and easier access via subways. The overall upgrade scheme is due for completion in 2018.

Rob Grey, Project Manager at Network Rail, said: "This work forms part of a massive £340m investment in the Liverpool City Region which is vital to increase capacity and provide passengers with a better railway.

"This much needed investment will boost the city's economy and enable more reliable, more frequent journeys. Completing the fourth track between Huyton and Roby is a major milestone and we are making great progress at Lime Street, a third of the way through the first phase of its major upgrade."
