Almost 150 new homes are to be built on Edge Lane in Liverpool.
Councillors have approved plans to develop the £20 million scheme on a 1.5-hectare plot bounded by Royston Street, Durning Road, Marmaduke Street and Edge Lane.
Designed by Bowker Sadler Architecture, the project consists of two main elements;
• 107 one- and two-bed apartments spread over three- and four-storey properties facing Edge Lane.
• 38 two-and three-bed homes facing Royston Street.
Other features will include off-road car and cycle parking spaces, private amenity areas and high-quality fixtures and fittings throughout.
The Edge Lane development will be built by Liverpool Mutual Homes (LMH) and forms part of the Liverpool Housing Partnership, a collaboration between Liverpool City Council, LMH, Redrow Homes and contractor Willmott Dixon that is creating 1,500 new homes across the city.
LMH Chief Executive Steve Coffey said: "Bringing new affordable homes to Edge Lane is great news for the area and will contribute significantly to the exciting transformation underway in this part of our city.
"As part of the main gateway to the city, the development will welcome visitors as well as providing much-needed low-cost home-ownership properties for local people."
Cllr Frank Hont added: "This scheme is a vital component of the regeneration of Edge Lane. The Knowledge Quarter and Liverpool Shopping Park are transforming each end of this important gateway, and alongside it we are determined to get the right mix and quality of housing for local people.
"This is all about making Edge Lane a great place to live and reverse decades of decline."
