Kier To Secure School Expansion Contracts In Liverpool

Construction News Image
Kier is in the running to carry out a classroom expansion project at two schools in Liverpool.

A report set to go before the council later this week will recommend investing more than £4 million in new facilities at Monksdown Primary School in Norris Green and Blackmoor Park Primary School in West Derby. The report recommends Kier be awarded the contacts for the work.

At Monksdown, £2.5m will be spent to create space for future growth after a decision to expand the school from two to three forms of entry. Features will include building a new, two-storey four-classroom extension as well as relocating the car park and other improvements.

Elsewhere, £1.65m will be spent on replacing wooden mobile buildings at Blackmoor with three classrooms.

Assistant Mayor and Cabinet member for Education, Cllr Nick Small, said: "This much-needed investment in Monksdown and Blackmoor Park Infants will make a huge difference to life for pupils and teachers.

"We are seeing more people moving into the area around Monksdown Primary School due to the successful regeneration of the area and improved housing, and it is vital parents have a good chance of getting their child into the school.

"And at Blackmoor Park, we are replacing old, worn out timber mobile classrooms with proper structures that are built to last.

"This is all part of our commitment to making sure that children in Liverpool receive the best possible education."

The report will go before the council's Cabinet on Friday, 23 March. If approved, construction will begin at both schools in April with work completed at Blackmoor Park by September and at Monksdown by November.
