Work has started on a new £12 million water upgrade project in South Yorkshire.
Yorkshire Water is carrying out the multi-million pound investment at Bolton upon Dearne waste water treatment works (WwTW).
The project aims to improve the quality of water being released back into the River Dearne, as well as to improve environmental benefits including helping fish populations. Features include building a brand new inlet works and the installation of a new treatment process.
Local MP, John Healey, recently visited the scheme to understand the work that's being done on site and how it will benefit the local community.
"It was good to see first-hand the upgrade work that is going on behind the scenes of this multi-million pound project," he said.
"While nature will be the first to notice the big change in cleaner water discharged into the River Dearne, residents should also see improvements in the wildlife both in and alongside the river when the work is done.
"This work should go a long way to improving water quality in the Dearne Valley."
John Bond from Yorkshire Water said: "This is key project to ensure we further improve river quality in South Yorkshire and bring about significant improvements to the local environment. The site is accessed via a small track and although we'll do everything we can to minimise disruption, local residents may notice an increase in traffic in the area.
"We'd ask that people take additional care when driving or crossing roads and assure customers that we'll keep them updated as the scheme progresses."
