ISG Secures Landmark Contract In Wales

Construction News Image
ISG has secured a landmark contract in Wales to build the country's first Compartment Fire Behaviour Training (CFBT) facility.

Designed by Lawray Architects, the three-storey build will be constructed for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service at its Training and Development Centre in Cardiff.

The new area will allow the service to deliver realistic training to operational crews in a carbonaceous environment using a range of challenging real fire scenarios.

This will support the delivery of Breathing Apparatus training by improving the skills of operational firefighters through raising their awareness of the significant hazards when involved in tackling fires in buildings. The key design features create a flexible training environment that safeguards and protects the user, the building and the environment.

The new training facility incorporates a highly specialised ventilation infrastructure with smoke capture, extract and filtration systems to achieve zero emissions into the atmosphere.

Jon James, ISG's regional director, said: "ISG is passionate about delivering the right infrastructure to support the life-saving activities of the UK's Fire and Rescue Service. This unique investment will prove transformational in how the current and future generations of firefighters are equipped to deal with ever more complex emergency scenarios."
