Major Refurbishment Works Complete At University Of Exeter

Construction News Image
Two major refurbishment projects have been completed at the University of Exeter, totalling an investment of £3.5 million.

Contractor Morgan Sindall delivered the schemes at the university's St Luke's and Streatham campuses

Cross Keys, part of the North Cloisters building on the St Luke's campus, underwent a £1.8m transformation, which included the creation of additional open plan space and seating, increasing its capacity from 150 to 250 people.

Refurbishment work across the ground and first floor level areas also created flexible study and social spaces for campus users and a newly developed catering outlet.

The construction firm also delivered a £1.7m refurbishment of the Physics Tower on the Streatham campus, upgrading the exterior of the building and installing an improved ventilation and thermal performance system.

Further works involved the introduction of additional insulation to the roof and new roof covering to help reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

Nigel Whelan, area director at Morgan Sindall Construction, said: "We're pleased to have successfully delivered these two major refurbishment projects for the University of Exeter. Both the Physics Tower and Cross Keys are central to campus life for students and staff and it's been a pleasure to work with the university to improve these iconic sites.

"We hope these upgrades will help to breathe fresh life into the university's existing teaching and social facilities and ensure that both spaces are future-fit and ready to serve students for many more years to come."

Hugh McCann, Director of Estates at the University of Exeter, added: "We're delighted with the improvements that have taken place in our Physics Building, and at our Cross Keys site. The refurbishments support the delivery of a great student and staff experience at the University, and I'm pleased that students and colleagues have responded very positively to both new spaces. This investment demonstrates our continuing commitment to provide excellent facilities for all users of our campuses into the future."
