Drone Tech Aerospace has recently completed a vast 600 Hectare topographical drone survey of Eridge Park in Royal Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Is this the largest land topographical survey conducted by a UAV drone in the United Kingdom? As of May 2019, we think it is!
If you know better please do let us know...
The project was completed at the request of DTA's land surveying partner Land Development Services (LDS) of Salisbury, a specialist land survey company operating in the UK and abroad, supplying topographic surveys, measured building surveys, laser scanning, and setting out services.
The project provides a showcase of the leap forward in productivity gains delivered by DTA's technology leading proprietary surveying drone and highly skilled pilots and operations team.
A single drone surveying team of one pilot plus one technical assistant completed the whole 600 Hectares survey in just four days!
Our land surveying partner, LDS, completed the setting out of ground control points prior to this, taking one very full day of work.
In all, a Herculean feat of productivity.
David Field, Managing Director of Drone Tech Aerospace said: "At DTA we have a fast-growing turnover with clients including major construction companies, engineering consultancies, quarrying & mining companies and utilities, and great professional surveying partners such as LDS.
"This 600 hectare project provides a great example of the significant productivity and efficiency gains that our drone services deliver to our clients.
"Our message to all sectors of industry, especially construction and engineering, is to embrace the opportunities for gaining efficiency offered by drone technology, get more trial projects started, and adopt drone services as your solution of choice particularly in land surveying."
Peter Collings, Managing Director of Land Development Services, said: "We are very pleased with the results of this survey, which is one of the largest we have conducted, and have also had very positive feedback from our clients. Partnering with DTA and its drone technology made all the difference in making the project viable and efficient. We certainly see drone technology as a valuable addition to our toolset for large land survey projects from now on.
"Professional surveyors will of course continue to use their current tools and processes for their core business, but drone technology allows us to offer clients additional useful data in terms of imagery and aerial footage, as well as providing significant time and cost savings to all."
John Palmer, Business Development Director at Drone Tech Aerospace added: "At 600 hectares, this project epitomises the core benefits of drone technology; productivity, safety and enablement. Flying a drone over such a large area minimises the need for feet on the ground, naturally delivering gains in productivity and safety.
"Moreover, such efficiency improvement enables larger scale projects such as this, which otherwise would be too costly using traditional methods, in the same way that drones operating at height and within confined spaces enables new inspection capabilities.
"To all engineering and procurement professionals commissioning drone land surveying projects, we urge you to ensure that your chosen suppliers have both the correct specialised drones and camera equipment, together with the appropriate technical engineering training and experience, in addition to the necessary drone piloting qualifications (CAA PfCO) and insurance.
"Too often we encounter situations where clients have experienced false starts with the adoption of drone technology in land surveying, completing projects and seeing poor results. The technology does work and works well, with good precision and accuracy.
"Choosing the correct supplier will get the desired results. We have a growing number of highly capable drone surveying companies like DTA in the UK now, and with the requisite engagement from industry I see a bright future with drone technology delivering its promised client benefits of productivity, safety and enablement."
