Aggregate Industries has responded to growing demand in the Greater Manchester area with the launch of a new concrete plant.
The firm has opened its second ready mix concrete plant in the region, adding to its established facility in Salford.
Located just off the M56 in Wythenshawe, the new plant is able to provide concrete up to a rate of 200m3 per hour from its two new twin-shaft mixer units. Its location means it is close to its cement and aggregates supply at Cauldon and Buxton, while GGBS cement filler comes in from the port at Runcorn, lowering road miles and therefore emissions associated with material transportation.
This site will help deal with the high volume of significant improvement works in the area, including the construction of hotels, hospitals and university accommodation.
Paul Halpin, Territory Sales Manager at Aggregate Industries, said: "With our established ready mix concrete plant in Salford running at capacity, we had to turn down projects in this rapidly developing region due to lack of resources. The addition of the new plant means we are now well positioned to meet the demands of Greater Manchester and become the supplier of choice.
"The plant is designed with efficiency in mind – with our receiving hopper minimising truck and shovel movements around site – and is able to provide the full range of Aggregate Industries' concrete and screed portfolio. Its two loading heads make it capable of a speedy turnaround which is key for customers who wish to collect concrete."
