A Hygienically Sound Air Dispersion Solution

Construction News Image
Guschlbauer is a well-renowned traditional confectionery producer and one of the largest in Austria. Their products are sold across the globe and the company is experiencing impressive growth rates. Due to their success, they needed to expand their production facility to increase the volume.

The production of high-end confectionary products, like those from Guschlbauer, requires a hygienic and fire-resistant air dispersion solution. Condensation, which is often seen when using metal ducts, would be detrimental to the production and it is of utmost importance to keep a constant temperature across the work space to ensure product quality. Hence, a condensation-free solution with an even air distribution across the space was preferred and the company settled on a FabricAir dispersion solution.

Planner Martin Arnreiter, Managing Director at TB Arnreiter GMBH Engineering Office for plumbing, heating, climate explained: "The client insisted on a constant air conditioning of the production halls of 18°C in order to be able to produce their products in perfect quality. This could only be realised in the tight timeframe by using fabric ducting."

The solution designed and produced for Guschlbauer was made from fire-resistant materials. The fabric ducting was created using non-permeable FabricAir® Combi 90 with an anti-microbial coating that makes it ideal in production facilities with strict hygiene requirements.

The beauty of a textile-based air dispersion system is that it is fully washable. The ducts can simply slide of the rails and laundered in a washing machine – even in an autoclave if need be – and then re-hung in a matter of minutes.

Using a 360° pattern of micro-perforations enables a high air change at low velocity with an unprecedented even air distribution across the conditioned room. This creates an ideal work environment without drafts as well as a hygienic airflow solution that ensures the proper conditions for high quality production.

The system has now been running for a few months. Michael Auinger, Production Manager at Guschlbauer, reflects on the results of the new fabric-based air dispersion solution.

"We are very satisfied with the implementation of the air conditioning solution using textile channels. In the summer, we need an absolutely draft-free and even air distribution or cooling system to ensure the quality of our products. The employees who work for five days in 3-shift operation were thus able to achieve an optimal working environment."

The system was suspended using an H-rail suspension solution in stainless steel and anodised aluminum, termed Type 8. One advantage of this system is the ease of installation.

The solution was delivered by FabricAir in collaboration with M-TEC Kältetechnik GmbH, who were pleased to find it so easy to install that they could realize significant time savings. It took merely two weeks from the order was released for production until it arrived on the construction site ready for installation.

Planner Martin Arnreiter, Managing Director at TB Arnreiter GMBH Engineering Office for plumbing, heating, climate explain the advantages of the chosen FabricAir solution.

"The solution provides with maximum comfort and guarantees optimal and imperceptible cold air distribution in the production halls. Finally, it should be noted that refrigeration production was carried out in a particularly economical way with a modulating cascade system."

Thus, Guschlbauer have achieved what they set out to do in terms of the air dispersion solution – a hygienically sound solution that also offers a high degree of employee comfort without drafts and a healthy constant temperature throughout the production space for optimum product quality.
