The £18 million project at Nicholas Chamberlaine Secondary School is taking shape with the completion of two phases.
Kier delivered the latest phase of the Bedworth project, handing it over to the Department for Education (DfE).
Phase 1 and 2 of the project, delivered as part of the East Midlands Priority Schools Batch A, included the construction of a new three-storey teaching block and single storey sports block. It also covers the refurbishment of the existing sports hall, including replacement cladding and glazing, as well as the associated external works, including utilities connections, drainage, hardstanding, paths and landscaping.
During the work, the school continued to be fully functioning, allowing it to teach its 1,350 secondary school pupils. This meant Kier was required to carry out the works in the middle courtyard, whilst collaborating fully with the school to ensure minimal disruption to pupils and employees at the school.
Mark Pausey, managing director at Kier Regional Building Central, said: "We are very pleased to hand phase 2 of Nicholas Chamberlaine Secondary School over to the client and to deliver modern facilities for pupils at the school.
"Throughout the build, we have actively engaged with the local community through site visits for pupils and staff, we have also engaged with over 1,000 school pupils to discuss careers in the built environment. We've had two trainees on site, as well as a graduate engineer and graduate design manager – it has been very important for us to promote and support the next generation through the delivery of this project."
Kier will continue onto phase 3 of the school which will see the demolition of the old school building and further external landscaping.
