Partners Appointed To Help Cambridgeshire Achieve Zero Carbon Emissions Targets

Construction News Image
Buoygues E&S Solutions in a joint initiative with SSE Enterprise have been selected to help Cambridgeshire County Council achieve its clean energy and zero carbon emissions targets.

The aim is to help communities and businesses lower their energy consumption more effectively and reduce the carbon footprint of Cambridgeshire.

In 2017, Cambridgeshire emitted more than 6.1million tonnes of CO2e - with just under half of that on homes and buildings. Reductions on schools, public buildings, housing, transport, farm estates and other assets are all expected to be delivered as part of the agreement.

Bouygues E&S has worked in Cambridgeshire since 2014. To date nearly £25 million has been invested to improve the efficiency of schools and public buildings, and to build a large-scale solar farm.

Examples of measures installed include lighting, renewable heat and electricity generation and building energy management systems. Together these projects have generated savings and new revenues in excess of £1.3m per year, and avoided the release of nearly 7,000 tonnes of carbon per year.

The 12MW solar farm near Soham has been operating for three years and has outperformed expectations - netting several hundred thousand pounds to help fund Adult Social Care services.

An innovative community district heating scheme, as well as solar and battery energy storage projects, are already under development with Bouygues E&S to generate renewable powered low-carbon heat and electricity for sale to homes and businesses.

The County Council's new contract with Bouygues E&S can be used by Cambridge City Council, Fenland District Council, Huntingdonshire District Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council. Other local authorities are also able to access the Cambridgeshire Local Authorities procurement via an access agreement.

Keith Pedder, Strategic Sales & Energy Director from Bouygues E&S Solutions said: "Bouygues E&S Solutions is delighted to be appointed as lead service delivery partner on this exciting and progressive programme. We are extremely proud of our combined achievements with Cambridgeshire County Council and its local authority partners since our original appointment in 2014. Being successful in the procurement of this new programme provides a platform which allows Bouygues E&S to continue to support Cambridgeshire’s local authorities in leading the region’s net zero carbon transition. Working with our strategic partners, we will once again provide local investment, showcase low carbon innovation and deliver scalable deployment of energy solutions."
