Willmott Dixon has partnered with Wates Residential through the Gascoigne estate regeneration scheme.
The companies joined forces to breathe new life into the gardens at Barking Learning Centre.
Working with Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council's regeneration company, the companies are regenerating the east and west side of the Gascoigne estate, a development that will provide over 1000 new homes for local people, including many affordable schemes. As part of their bid to leave a legacy within the local community, volunteers from the two organisations have set to work at Barking Learning Centre, delivering a full makeover of the centre's gardens.
Working together, the volunteers built new planters for the area out of disused scaffolding boards, provided new greenery and garden furniture to provide an outdoor space that will allow the local community to enjoy a pleasant environment to spend time in.
Natalie Sidey, Social Value Manager at Willmott Dixon said: "It was fantastic to collaborate with Wates to deliver a much-needed makeover at this important facility, which is at the heart of the local community. By working together as one team across the two organisations, we have been able to have even more of an impact on improving surroundings for the local communities in which we are working within."
Michelle McSorley, Community Investment Team Manager, Wates Residential, said: "Green spaces can provide huge benefits to people, especially in built up areas. Wates Residential is always looking at how we can positively impact the communities where we operate, and by teaming up with Willmott Dixon we have been able to bring our skills and resources together to make a big improvement to this space, which will benefit the people living here, hopefully for years to come."
