Construction firm Kier has completed two significant projects for Exeter City Council, the multi-million pound transformation of Riverside pool and leisure centre as well as the city's new bus station.
The new bus station is situated in the heart of the city centre and will critically support transport links for urban and rural communities across the south west. It has a striking glass front with first-class facilities for commuters as well as ample seating throughout the building. Kier consulted with local bus user groups as well as RNIB to ensure this new transport infrastructure was accessible for all. Funded by Exeter City Council with a £800,000 grant from the Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) ‘Getting Building Fund’, the new bus station is set to provide a sustainable transport solution for Exeter for years to come.
Kier has also transformed the Riverside leisure centre with an array of modern and first-class facilities, including a new learner and swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa pool. New changing facilities and modern spectator facilities have also been installed.
Anthony Irving, Managing Director of Kier Regional Building Western & Wales, said: "We are delighted to have handed over these two important projects which provide important new facilities for the people of Exeter to enjoy for years to come. The new bus station has been rated excellent for its environmental credentials, complementing the ambition of the Passivhaus leisure centre at St Sidwell's Point, supporting Exeter City Council's net zero 2030 plan.
"As part of our commitment to providing legacies in which we work, we are incredibly proud of the work we have, and will continue to do, with Building Greater Exeter to provide job and training opportunities to the next generation of talent as well as showcasing the innovative building methods we are using to deliver sustainable infrastructure across the city."
